The next blockbuster of the Tretyakov Gallery - a large-scale exhibition of Vasily Polenov opened in the gallery on Krymsky Val

The exhibition, dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov (1844-1927), opened on October 17 in the building of the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val.

Vasily Polenov possessed universal talent, was an innovator in landscape painting, an outstanding teacher, theater artist, architect, composer, writer and public figure.

The exposition presents landscape, portrait, historical painting, paintings of the gospel series, sketches of theatrical scenery and architectural projects. For the first time, the Moscow public will see the monumental painting "Christ and the Sinner" provided by the State Russian Museum.

Diorama Theater “Traveling Around the World”

In the 1890s, Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov created a light theater designed for his children on the basis of the Diorama. It was a series of two-sided transparent paintings illuminated by a kerosene lamp, changing the position of which the same view could be demonstrated in daylight or night lighting. Showing pictures to children, Polenov told interesting stories, and in between sessions he played on the organ organ Celestine.

For many years, the tradition of showing "Diorama" was not interrupted, kerosene lamps were replaced by electric bulbs, and for the preservation of the originals, professional artists executed copies from the original paintings. Currently, the original "Diorama" is stored in the Museum-Reserve of V.D. Polenova.

Especially for the exhibition "Vasily Polenov" Museum-Reserve V.D. Polenova provided an exact copy of the light production. The paintings included in its composition are written from the originals by the artist A.V. Chubakov.
