The most anticipated project of 2019 and the undisputed bestseller - a grand exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci in honor of the 500th anniversary of the death of a brilliant artist, will open in the Louvre on October 24.

500 years is a significant date, and they began to prepare for it in advance, in 2015. So, this year at the exhibition you can see 10 works of the great Italian artist. Why so little? Often Leonardo is credited with the work of his students, of whom there were at least ten people. At the last major exhibition dedicated to da Vinci, the curators managed to collect 8 works with confirmed authorship of a genius.

For this reason, the sensational work “Savior of the World”, sold for a record $ 450 million and recently found on a Saudi prince’s yacht, will not be shown at the exhibition - experts have not yet confirmed the absolute authorship of the Italian painter. The center of the exposition will be five paintings that are already in the possession of the Louvre: "Madonna in the Rocks", "Beautiful Ferroniera", "Mona Lisa" (she will remain in her usual place), "St. John the Baptist" and "St. Anna". In addition to them, curators collected more than a hundred drawings and sculptures. So far, the participation of the “Vitruvian Man” remains open to question, since Venice must agree to it. In the same situation is the “Madonna of the Carnation”, which since entering the collection has never left the walls of the Pinakothek in Munich.

The biggest sensation will be the participation in the exhibition "Portrait of Ginevra de Benchi." Now this picture is in the collection of the Washington National Gallery. In 1967, she moved to the gallery collection, this happened after the princes of Liechtenstein decided to sell their collection of works of art. Since then, the work has never left America, and this journey may be her first trip to Europe in the last 50 years. However, experts call this event unlikely. Leonardo's exhibition will last four months, and the portrait of de Benchi is one of the central works of the gallery.
