Since April 27, a branch of the Museum of the East, the Roerichs Museum, officially becomes a permanent residence in the former pavilion "Health" at the VDNH.
The permanent exhibition “Keeping the culture. The Museum of the Roerichs at the Exhibition of Economic Achievements will present more than 400 works by Nicholas and Svyatoslav Roerichs, demonstrating the most diverse facets of their activities. First of all, these are, of course, pictorial works of father and son. But the objects of decorative and applied arts collected by them during their travels and life in the East will also be shown: sculpture, tanks (Tibetan icons) and others.
The Roerichs Museum settled in Pavilion No. 13 (the former “Healthcare”) in 2018, after the previous building - the Lopukhins' estate on Volkhonka - was closed for restoration. Then a large temporary exhibition “The Roerichs. Keeping culture. For the current opening of the pavilion was re-restored.
As the director of the Museum of Oriental Art Alexander Sedov told our publication earlier, it was originally supposed that the building at the Exhibition of Economic Achievements would be transferred to the museum as a depository (instead of the Church of Elijah the Prophet on Vorontsov Field, from where he should take out his collections before the end of summer). However, after the Lopukhins' estate was closed for restoration for an indefinite period, the question of its integration into the museum town of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts arose. A.S. Pushkin, it became clear that the branch, the Museum of the Roerichs, should find new halls for the permanent exhibition.
