The State Tretyakov Gallery received as a gift two paintings by the sixties artist Mikhail Nikonov "Players I", "Players III". The transfer ceremony took place in the New Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val on Monday evening.

"This is indeed a very important event for us. Important because the company Nexia Pacioli donates to the Tretyakov Gallery two wonderful works by the artist Mikhail Nikonov. An artist whose work is very important for the development of artistic ideas of the last decades of the last century. The artist represented in The Tretyakov Gallery is only three works, "said the director of the Tretyakov Gallery Zelfira Tregulova at the transfer ceremony.

She noted that among the guests in the hall is Mikhail's brother Pavel Nikonov. "One of my favorite artists, whose work is also represented in the Tretyakov Gallery, in my opinion, is not enough, alas," added Tregulova. Among the guests is also the son of Michael - musician Vladimir Nikonov.

As part of the long-term program "Patrons and Donors - the Tretyakov Gallery," the main focus of which was on the acquisition of art collections of the XX-XXI centuries, in 2018 the museum collection received a significant number of works - more than 3 thousand museum objects.

Mikhail Fedorovich Nikonov - the eldest of the famous artist Nikonov brothers (the younger - Pavel Fedorovich), Mikhail studied at the Moscow Secondary Art School (1940-1947), and after graduating - at the Moscow State Art Institute. Surikov, in the workshop of Efanov (1947-1953).

He was one of the initiators of the creation and the participant of the famous "Group of Nine", the exhibitions of which were first held in Moscow in 1960 and in Leningrad in 1961. Many of them, including Nikonov, in their work relied on the picturesque tradition of the artists of the "Jack of Diamonds" group. In the 1980s, to which the paintings "Players I" and "Players III" donated to the museum belong, the artist’s works had a strong social sound. The paintings were created by the artist in the period of the greatest creative rise.
