In February, the State Russian Museum will send a painting by Ilya Repin to the exhibition in Moscow entitled "The ceremonial meeting of the State Council on May 7, 1901, on the day of its centennial anniversary since its establishment", the museum’s press service reported on Thursday.


The 4x8 m canvas will be removed from the exhibition at the Mikhailovsky Palace on Monday and delivered to the Tretyakov Gallery along with 54 paintings and 24 graphic works by the artist.


"In connection with the upcoming anniversary of Ilya Repin, the leading museums of the country are preparing large-scale exhibitions devoted to the work of the great master. The Russian Museum holds a unique collection of the artist’s masterpieces, without which the idea of ​​his work cannot be complete. Exposing large-format paintings will be an important event in Moscow" The ceremonial meeting of the State Council on May 7, 1901 ... The Russian Museum also plans to hold an exhibition for the anniversary of Repin in St. Petersburg, it will open in October. The exhibition will feature more than 200 paintings and drawings, documentary materials related to the life and work of the master.


Ilya Repin (1844 -1930), Russian artist of the era of democratic realism, academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Portraitist, author of paintings of historical and everyday genres. His brushes belong to the paintings "Barge Haulers on the Volga", "Ivan the Terrible and his Son Ivan November 16, 1581", "Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom", "The Cossacks write a letter to the Turkish Sultan" and other famous works.


The Russian Museum regularly provides works from its collection for temporary exhibitions in other cities. Now in the Tretyakov Gallery are more than 100 works of Arkhip Kuindzhi from the collection of the Russian Museum.
