The Garage Museum will open art residences and workshops for artists at the VDNKh. These are 18 separate working spaces, a general workshop and painting, the press service of the museum reports on Friday.
“We dreamed about our own workshops for artists since the opening of the museum. The Garage workshops are both a workspace, a place for discussion and exchange of experience, and just a cozy house, which, we hope, artists from all over the country will return again and again We are pleased that the site for the workshops was found precisely at the Exhibition of Economic Achievements - in the largest exhibition and cultural complex of a city with a rich history, "said museum director Anton Belov, whose words are quoted in the press service.
The museum notes that this is the first museum initiative of its kind in Russia. "The Museum of Contemporary Art" Garage "comes to a new level of support for Russian contemporary art," - said in a statement.
The main purpose of the program in the museum is to create a favorable environment for Russian and foreign artists and cultural workers, for development, communication, exchange of skills, knowledge and contacts. Workspaces and workshops will be located in a post-constructivist building built in 1939. They will be organized 18 separate workspaces, a common workshop and painting.
"They occupy the former pavilion" School for 280 students ", reconstructed under the polyclinic in the 1950s, and the x-ray diagnostic department attached to it in 1970-1971, connected to the main building with a long walkway. In 2017, the clinic building was transferred to the museum Garage ", - clarified in the press service and added that one of the conditions was the preservation of the historical appearance of the building.
Fourteen workshops, provided for six months, are intended for artists living in Moscow. Four workshops work in the art-residence format: artists living in the regions are invited to use them for up to three months. Since 2020, artists from abroad and curators from Russia and from all over the world will be able to take part in the art residences program.
