Tomorrow Pushkin Museum. Pushkin will open for visitors a chamber exposition “Guests from Naples. Artemisia Gentileschi and contemporaries. A small exhibition will allow you to visually examine different aspects of the Neapolitan naturalism era using the examples of the best representatives of Caravaggism. The exhibition consisted of three works by Italian painters from the Capodimonte Museum of the first half of the XVII century, as well as the works of their contemporaries: Guido Reni, Gverchino, Simone Kantarini from the collection of the Pushkin Museum.
The central piece of the exhibition was the most famous painting of Artemisia Gentileschi “Judith and Holofernes”, painted by the artist at the age of 20. Artemisia Gentileschi is called the first feminist artist.
The picture of Artemisia Gentileschi will be supplemented by the paintings of Simon Vue “Angel with dices and tunic of Christ” and “Holy Agath” by Francesco Guarino.
“Today’s exhibition is only a chamber introduction to the next year’s project, which will give visitors of the Pushkin Museum an idea of not only the rich collection of the Capodimonte Museum, but also the key stages in the development of 17th century Italian painting,” said Alexander Yerofeyev, Vice President of VTB Bank .
This exhibition will be a kind of bridge to the grand joint project of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. Pushkin Museum of Capodimonte. In 2020, significant paintings by Italian artists will be brought from the collection of the Neapolitan Museum to Moscow.
