In the Vienna Museum of Art History (KHM), the exhibition of Pieter Bruegel the Elder ended, which was visited by more than 400 thousand people during three and a half months of work. According to the director of the museum, Sabina Haag, she enjoyed particular success with tourists from Russia.
Of course, no one takes the exact number of Russian visitors to the exhibition, but the press service notes that this is at least 6% of all visitors. The museum confesses that they did not expect such an influx from Russia and were very surprised.
It seems that the exhibition boom that can be observed in the last few years in Moscow and St. Petersburg has led to the fact that our compatriots are increasingly making trips abroad to visit the world blockbuster exhibitions. Confirmation of this - the popularity of the public in Facebook "We must go to watch" (@mustseeart), which was signed by about 20 thousand people. By the way, it was there that one of the first notes appeared that hotly advertised Bruegel’s exhibition, which, it is believed, began the unprecedented popularity of this exhibition among Russian-speaking users of Facebook. Among the reasons for this mass pilgrimage to Bruegel, the artist’s popularity in the Soviet Union was called for due to the peculiar kinokataty at Tarkovsky, and even the post of oppositionist Alexei Navalny in the same Facebook, who visited the exhibition and encouraged its subscribers to follow his example.
The director of the Vienna Museum of Art History, Sabina Haag, said that among the KHM visitors there is always a significant percentage of tourists from Russia, which is why audio guides in Russian appeared in the museum, for example. According to her, interest in the Vienna museum in Russia was added by exchange exhibitions in the framework of cooperation with the State Hermitage Museum: “Imperial capitals: St. Petersburg - Vienna. Masterpieces of Museum Collections "in St. Petersburg and the Hermitage Museum Away. Masterpieces from Botticelli to van Dyck "in Vienna, at the opening of which was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
