Boris Kustodiev is not only an outstanding artist who has preserved the spirit of a bygone Russia on his canvases, but also a bright photographer. A look at the work of the master from a new perspective allows about 100 unique prints at the exhibition "Boris Kustodiev., Painting, Photography" at the Multimedia Art Museum.
Little is known that at the beginning of the twentieth century the artist BM Kustodiev was seriously interested in photography. A photo for him - and a way to capture the surrounding reality, and the possibility of experimenting with light and composition.
In 2009, the artist's granddaughter - Tatiana Kirillovna Kustodieva, an art historian, curator of the Italian Renaissance collection in the State Hermitage, donated a small album with photos taken by BM Kustodiev to his Astrakhan State Picture Gallery, with his wife Yu. E. Kustodiyeva and family friends. Time spared no pictures. Many of them were practically lost. New digital technologies have literally "showed" extinguished images, making them accessible to researchers and spectators.
