The exhibition of Hollywood photographer Douglas Kirkland "Behind the Scenes", which presents pictures of Coco Chanel, Marilyn Monroe and footage from numerous filming, was opened on Wednesday at the Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography.
"The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography is the first Russian exhibition of the award-winning American photographer, lecturer and author of several books by Douglas Kirkland." The exhibition "Behind the Scenes" will cover the entire 60-year career of the photographer and will focus on its brightest stages, " - the report says.
In the Great Hall of the center there are photos showing the backstage of Hollywood filming from the 1960s to the 2010s, as well as the iconic Marilyn Monroe series of 1961. A special project within the exhibition will be a series about the life and work of the 79-year-old Coco Chanel, created by Douglas Kirkland in Paris in 1962 on the orders of Look magazine. For three weeks he persistently followed the most famous couturier of all time, capturing preparations for a fashion show, her daily worries, and walks around Versailles, the press service said.
Douglas Kirkland was born in 1934 in Toronto and began his career as an assistant to the legendary Irwin Penn, and in 1960 became a regular photographer of the American magazine Look. Kirkland's photographs are kept in permanent collections of museums around the world: the National Portrait Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, the Smithsonian Institution's Museum Complex, George Eastman's House Museum, and the Photographic Center in Houston.
