"Portraits and Spaces" of the Danish photographer, Torben Esqueroda, in ROSPHOTO

The landscapes and portraits of the Danish photographer, Thorben Esqueroda, are not just a fixation of a specific location or appearance, it is an artistic form of dialogue-research on the photographic surface, space and bodily experience of the viewer.

The photographic practice of the Dane Torben Esqueroda is rooted in the documentation of landscapes, architecture and persons. Eskorod uses a close-up, large format and works exclusively in series, inviting the viewer to immerse himself in contemplative meditation, look into himself, turn to internal memory.

For many years, Torben was worried about the taboo subject of death. The approach of the photographer to this topic is far from the classical one. Impressing on the delayed film fading memorial medallions framed with fallen leaves and flowers from the most famous cemetery of Rome (Campo Verano), Eskerod achieves an unrealistic color and expressive living texture of the picture. The images of the series Life and Death Masks, on the contrary, are artificially stressed: the faces of the models can hardly be distinguished from 3D visualization. Thus, the author deprives the photograph of the original context, transforms their spatial envelope and visually brings them closer to the art object.

The exposition included 5 series, more than 70 works and 1 experimental photo installation.
