The painting by Russian artist Natalia Goncharova (1881-1962) was sold on Monday at Christie's auction in London for £ 2.4 million ($ 3.2 million).

"The painting" Still life with a teapot and oranges "was sold for £ 2.4 million sterling, five times higher than the lower bar of the preliminary assessment," the agency's interlocutor said.

For many years it was believed that the author of the picture - Mikhail Larionov (1881-1964), and only a careful study of the work, conducted in the pre-auction analysis, helped establish the true authorship. The picture was estimated at £ 500-700 thousand ($ 650-920 thousand).

The painting was presented at the personal exhibition of Goncharova in the art department of Dobychina in St. Petersburg in 1914 and was acquired by the father of the current owner from Alexandra Tomilina-Larionova in 1966.
