The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts will for the first time fully present the works of the French artist of the Paris School at the exhibition "Chaim Soutine: Retrospective", which opens on October 24.


"Some works by Chaim Soutine were already shown in the Pushkin Museum at the exhibition" Paris School. "But these were only modest approaches to what we did today," said the director of the Pushkin Museum. A. S. Pushkin Marina Loshak.


In the exhibition, divided into three thematic chapters: "Portrait", "Still Life" and "Landscape", presents more than 60 works. Among them are not only the works of Soutine himself, but also the work of the masters of the old school, on whose creativity he relied, as well as works of contemporary artists inspired by his canvases.


"All his free time he spent in the halls of the Louvre, attentively studying the works of old masters and authors of the XIX century" - said curator of the exhibition, head of the department of educational and exhibition projects Pushkin Museum Surya Sadekova. According to her, Sotin's work can be represented from different angles. "We wanted to take him out of the framework of the Paris School, to present him as an artist of world significance, who played a huge role in the history of art," the curator said.
