The ancient Russian city of Vyborg, recently granted the status of a city museum, enters a twenty-year period of large-scale restoration.

The inhabitants of the city are convinced - Vyborg is a facade that looks to the west, towards Finland and Scandinavia. Therefore, his face must be flawless. For 700 years it was a notable military, trade and cultural outpost in Europe. Since the middle of the XX century, Vyborg is a typical district center, except that it is very beautiful.

In the scaffolding now all the main symbols of Vyborg: The Clock Tower, the tower of the ancient knight's castle, the Town Hall. The medieval citadel as if strives to correspond to the new status of the city's first museum in Russia.

In Vyborg, every ancient building has a mystery. Here is the house of the merchant guild. Cleaning the granite boulders of the basement from the dust of centuries, the restorers opened the stone vaults of the 16th century: "In this place we can touch the Middle Ages," said Vladimir Tsoy, director of the Vyborg Museum-Reserve.

Only in the first year of grand renovation in Vyborg 70 old mansions will be restored. In a few years the medieval citadel should become not only a museum more interesting for guests, but also a city more convenient for residents.
