The Russians named the most famous Russian painters. The All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VCIOM) published research data timed to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Aivazovsky.

The most famous painter was Ivan Shishkin. It was mentioned by 32 percent of respondents. On the second line - Ilya Repin with 29 percent.

The list is timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the artist Ivan Aivazovsky, who took third place. It is noted that "when answering a question without prompts," 24 percent of respondents named it.

The question was: "What Russian, Russian painters and artists do you know? You can name up to five names. "

The top ten also included such artists as Viktor Vasnetsov, Ilya Glazunov, Valentin Serov, Isaak Levitan, Vasily Surikov, Kazimir Malevich and Alexei Savrasov.

The survey was conducted among Russians over the age of 18. "The survey method is a telephone interview on a stratified two-base random sample of stationary and mobile numbers of 1200 respondents," VTsIOM explained.
