The exhibition "A premonition of the future, the Graphics of Vasily Chekrygin", where you can see the works of the artist of the beginning of the twentieth century, whose life was tragically cut off in 25 years as a result of an accident, was opened today at the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val.

"Chekrygin is one of the most brilliant and dramatic figures in the art of the 20th century, an innovative artist and an art theorist, he was the leader and ideological inspirer of the legendary association" Art - Life "(" Makovets ") .In spite of his short life, he managed to declare Himself as a brilliant draftsman, painter, deeply reflecting on man, life and death, the nature of art, "the press service of the museum said.

The Tretyakov Gallery notes that the time of wars and revolutions, critical in Russian history, influenced the artist's worldview, and the sense of belonging to historical events was reflected in his work. In the last three years of his life, the artist worked on sketches of compositions for his conceived frescoes "Genesis" and "Resurrection of the Dead" and created in the short period about 1500 drawings. Some of them can be seen at the exhibition.

The Tretyakov Gallery has one of the best museum collections of Chekrygin's graphics, which was formed from receipts from the artist's widow, as well as the collections of George Kostaki and Alexei Sidorov. In total, it has 450 sheets, of which about 70 are exhibited at the exhibition. Among them are drawings from the series "Uprising", "Shooting", "Faces", "Orgii", unique sheets on the theme "Resurrection of the Dead", many of which are shown for the first time, as well as the book of Vladimir Mayakovsky "I", which Chekrygin illustrated with Leo Zheginym.

The exposition, which takes place within the framework of the program "The Tretyakov Gallery opens its storerooms," will continue its work until June 4.
