Monument to Maya Plisetskaya was opened in Moscow on the birthday of the outstanding ballerina. The opening ceremony to the sounds of the famous "Carmen" by Bizet - Shchedrin was held at the named in honor of Maya Plisetskaya park on the Bolshaya Dmitrovka.


The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, Minister of Culture Vladimir Medina, chief conductor and director of the Mariinsky Theatre, People's Artist of Russia Valery Gergiev, spouse Plisetskaya composer Rodion Shchedrin and dozens of admirers of the great ballerina, which is literally strewn with flowers pedestal of the monument.

With perpetuate the memory made Plisetskaya Rodion Shchedrin, actively participate in all stages of implementation of the project. The initiative supported by the Ministry of Culture, to provide extra-budgetary funding, and the author of the sculpture become the Honoured Artist of Russia Viktor Mitroshin, who was personally acquainted with a dancer. Place the erection of the monument on October 13 the Moscow City Duma adopted the Commission on monumental art.
