Sculptor Georgy Frangulyan working on the Moscow memorial "Wall of Grief", on Saturday opened the doors of his workshop for the members of the interdepartmental working group on the perpetuation of the memory of victims of political repression.

Interdepartmental Working Group to coordinate activities, implementing the concept of the state policy on the perpetuation of the victims of political repression, was established by the decree of President Vladimir Putin's February 15, 2016. It is composed of the head of the Presidential Council on Civil Society and Human Rights Mikhail Fedotov, the members of the Council Lyudmila Alexeyeva, Sergei Karaganov and Nikolai Svanidze, Moscow Government Minister Alexander Kibovsky writer Daniel Granik, sculptor Georgy Frangulyan and others.

 

The first meeting of the group took place on 23 March. One of the main issues discussed was the erection of the memorial "Wall of sorrow." The monument will be at the intersection of Sadovaya-Spasskaya Street and Avenue Sakharov inside the Garden Ring. Its opening is scheduled for October 30, 2017.
