“All I do is based on my emotions. Images and paintings depend on my mood”.

With the help of a seemingly chaotic range of colours Juri Latinev manages to build harmonious integrity of his works. Some of his paintings, to my mind, resemble Churlenis’ works which are famous for their inner musical harmony. By giving the outline of his images the painter tries to show the real objects and relations between them in a more true to life way. He paints both from life and from slides. Sometimes his landscapes seem to be unreal, as if taken with a camera. He achieves this effect by a special use of the “local” colour – the process resembling the colouring of a draft. Everything in his picture seems to be flooded with more or less equal amount of light, but one detail always stands out, attracting your attention and charming the audience. Very often he uses the so called “flat painting”, getting unexpected effects, when the relation between the picture and the audience can be called “hypnosis”. There is a parallel between music and painting. The last word in painting is abstract art. Like sound imitation in music, real life imitation plays in abstract art a subordinate role. And this is when we begin to understand what phrases like “represent the world in the fullness of sensual perception, “his canvases depict the most delicate shades of emotions”, “he can catch spontaneity of the first impression” mean.
