Nikifor Krylov

Died: 1831, St Petersburg
Alexei Venetsianov School Painter. Born in the town of Kalyazin in Tver Province (1802). Worked for an artel of travelling artists, who painted icons and frescoes in village churches (early 1820s). Worked at the Convent of St Nicholas at Terebeni in Tver Province (1823–24), where he was spotted by Alexei Venetsianov (1824), who invited him to St Petersburg (1825). Studied under Alexei Venetsianov and attended drawing classes at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1825–31). Awarded a minor gold medal by the Society for the Encouragement of Artists (1827) and nominated to the Imperial Academy of Arts (1830). Died of cholera in St Petersburg (1831).
