...If one tries to define in a few words what distinguishes Konstantinov’s art from others, then, most likely, there are only three words: submergence, trust, merging.
Yuri Konstantinov is a painter, first and foremost a painter, although in this book his graphics and his literary experiments and theoretical notes on Art are presented. Konstantinov is a painter for whom the external world is a constant source of creativity. There are not that many people for whom trust in the outside world defines their own path.
Returning to the philosophy of the 20th century which nurtured us, the representatives of the generation of the 1980s-1990s, one has to disagree with the view oints recognized in the years of youth as unshakeable truths: our worldview is based on our prior knowledge of the world. Konstantinov’s art places this postulate in doubt: his knowledge depends on the constant scrutiny of the surrounding world, all of his knowledge is practical, it came to him not through upbringing, education, but from observation of the world.
His knowledge is intuitive. Isn’t it for this that people come to painting? The Lord endows everyone with different talents, one reads, one speaks, writes, one runs faster than the rest, one sees. And amongst the latter even fewer are those who can transmit the visible accurately and with care, striving not to splatter the novelty which comes with each moment of observation.
