Russia's first monument of Persian poet Omar Khayyam will opened in Astrakhan August 4

Four-meter bronze statue of the Persian poet and philosopher Omar Khayyam officially will opened in Astrakhan on 4 August. It will be the first in Russia monument to prominent figures of science and culture, told Tass in Astrakhan Ministry of international and foreign economic relations.

 

"Monuments of Omar Khayyam are in Tehran, Dushanbe, Ashgabat and Bucharest, Astrakhan monument will be the first in Russia monument will be a symbol of recognition of the role of the Astrakhan region in the development of Russian-Iranian trade and economic and cultural ties." - Said the ministry.

 

They added that the monument was built at the expense of the Chamber of Industry, Commerce, Mines and Agriculture of the province of Gilan (Iran). The sculpture weighing 1.5 tons was cast in Yekaterinburg, it is now delivered to Astrakhan and hoisted on a pedestal in the student square in front of the Astrakhan State University.

 

"As long as the monument (Omar Khayyam) closed with a cloth, so to see the beauty of the monument will be possible only after the inauguration of this event will be held on August 4 during the official visit to the delegation of the Iranian province of Gilan, headed by the Governor-General, Mohammad Ali Najafi." - He added the ministry.

 

Omar Khayyam is famous throughout the world, primarily because of its Ruban - quatrains with a deep and ambiguous meaning. In Iran, Khayyam is known for creating the most accurate of the actual use of calendars. Creating a monument to this outstanding figure of the Astrakhan region and the Iranian side discussed for several years. Author of the project - Chelyabinsk sculptor Sergei Vorobyov, commissioned by the representatives of Iran, Omar Khayyam is depicted standing, he is holding a book and pen.

 

In 2014 the Astrakhan region and Iran celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of friendly inter-regional relations. The region has more than 160 Iranian companies and a branch of Iranian bank. According to the governor's press service, the foreign trade turnover between the region and Iran in the I half of 2016 amounted to $ 74.2 million (January - June 2015 - $ 100.6 million).
