In the Chinese city of Qinhuangdao, one of the exhibits of the UCCA Dune Art Museum, located in a sand dune on the shores of the bay, opened for visitors. Architectural company Beijing Open Architecture presented a project on which she worked for three years. This is a complex of ten galleries and cafes, connected with each other and resembling caves. According to the architects, they wanted to recreate the earliest form of human refuge.
“The walls of the ancient caves were the place where art originated,” explains co-founder Lee Hu.
Thanks to the holes in the walls that allow natural light into the rooms, visitors have a view of the sea and the sky, which changes during the day. The complex itself has a wide and elongated shape, resembling a dome. Concrete walls allow you to maintain a comfortable temperature inside the museum. The first exhibition After Nature opened in October 2018. Work on the rest of the museum is still ongoing.
