In 2018, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the State Museum of the East, Russia's only cultural center specializing in the preservation, study and popularization of the art of the countries and peoples of the East, is celebrated.

The exhibition “East. Another Beauty ”is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Museum of the East. The exhibition is designed for the entire exhibition complex - six rooms. The exposition will involve all the main regions represented in the museum's collection, grouped into six sections: Central Asia, the countries of Islam, the Caucasus, China, Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia. The exhibition will exhibit more than four hundred museum objects: painting and graphics, costume and jewelry, decorative arts and crafts.

The exhibition “East. Another beauty ”will hold a unique journey into the history of the peoples of the East. The exhibition is devoted to women in traditional culture, its role and understanding of female beauty in general. At first glance, the question of what is beautiful is simple and even simpler the question of who is beautiful. But if you go deeper, it becomes obvious that each country has its own canons of beauty, which in different parts of the world and in different historical epochs can be diametrically opposed.

The central theme of the exhibition is female beauty in different parts of the world and throughout various historical periods. Aesthetic ideas of the peoples of the East vary greatly depending on the region. On the one hand, it is the admiration of a tiny female foot, which led to the tradition of bandaging the feet of the Chinese. On the other hand, the henna-colored feet of the Indian girl’s tanned feet, each movement of which accompanies the ringing of anklets, are sung by poets.

Turning to the Far East, we will face an attempt to change the feminine nature, with the perception of a woman as an “art object” - a pliable material from which any, even the most fantastic image can be formed. The same region presents completely different pictures in different historical epochs. So the Persian can be closed and modest, with the help of the hijab is almost invisible to others. Or to demonstrate the thirst for life and frank eroticism in the portraits of the Kadzhar era.

The exhibition affects not only the female appearance: costume, jewelry - but also small pieces of female life, of that particular world, which for men has traditionally been a secret behind seven seals. He remains a secret now as well - and in the East it is obvious than anywhere else. Referring to the images of famous heroines, legends and legends, the stories of the most famous and beautiful women, we are talking about their place in society.

The purpose of the exhibition, with the help of the treasures stored in the museum's collection, is to present the look and inner world of the eastern beauty. Among the items of costume you can see national, holiday and wedding dresses, hats, caftans, as well as the famous Chinese shoes for bandaging feet. In the section of jewelry will be presented: earrings, bracelets amulets, head adornments, belt sets. More than four hundred museum objects: painting and graphics, costume and jewelry, objects of decorative and applied art will recreate the image and way of life of Eastern women.
