"Masterpieces of the Leiden Collection" moved from the Pushkin Museum to the Hermitage

The State Hermitage is preparing to open the exhibition "The Epoch of Rembrandt and Vermeer." Masterpieces of the Leiden Collection. " It will include 80 paintings from private collections of Dutch painting of the XVII century and "twin paintings" from the Hermitage collection.


The exhibition will consist of 12 works by Rembrandt, as well as works by Frans Hals, Jan Vermeer, Ferdinand Bol and Govert Flink. The exhibition includes two drawings - "Resting Young Lion" by Rembrandt and "The Head of a Bear" by Leonardo da Vinci.


The Leiden collection, named after the Dutch city where Rembrandt was born, was founded in 2003 by Thomas Kaplan and his wife Daphne Recanati-Kaplan. It includes about 250 picturesque and graphic works. The collection was first shown to the world in 2017 in the Louvre, then the exhibitions were held at the National Museum in Beijing and the Long Museum in Shanghai. In 2018 masterpieces of the Leiden collection are accepted in Russia. In the capital, the exhibition of the same name was opened in the Pushkin Museum. A.S. Pushkin on March 28.


Opening of the exhibition will take place on September 4, 2018.
