The State Hermitage in St. Petersburg acquired a picture of one of the most famous and expensive contemporary artists Anselm Kiefer "Aurora" for 750,000 euros.
The painting was purchased in late 2017 at the expense of its own fund, formed through donations, in conjunction with the Vladimir Potanin Charity Fund.
The painting "Aurora" has already visited the State Hermitage in 2017 as part of the exhibition "Anselm Kiefer - Velimir Khlebnikov", organized jointly with the gallery of Tadeus Ropak.
In 2016 Anselm Kiefer, inspired by a visit to St. Petersburg, created a new exhibition project specially for the Hermitage. In the three-part space of the Nikolaev Hall, which was equipped for the exhibition, Kiefer presented the canvases dedicated to the Russian futurist poet, the experimenter of word creation Velimir Khlebnikov (1885-1922). At the exhibition were exhibited about 30 new works, specially created for this project.
"Aurora" - one of the pictures of the new series. According to art critics, the St. Petersburg cruiser inspired the artist to create it.
Anselm Kiefer, a German artist, was born in the small German town of Donaueschingen in 1945, two months before the end of World War II. Since 1993 he lives and works in France.
