An exhibition "In the circle of comrades, on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Kramskoy" was opened in Moscow

Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky took part in the opening of the exhibition "In the circle of comrades, on the 180th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Kramskoy", which opened on Tuesday in the Art Gallery of Zurab Tsereteli, TASS correspondent reports.


"Kramskoy ... was a versatile person - not only a wonderful artist, but also an active public figure, for us it is very important that he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts, and this school, founded 260 years ago, had the most favorable effect on his style and mastery, "Medinsky said.


The minister noted that in recent years, the interest of Russians in the work of the classics of Russian painting has increased manyfold. "Recently, visiting exhibitions of our artists - from Serov to Vereshchagin, gave a deafening effect of popularity." 125 million of our citizens visited Russian museums and exhibitions last year, more than in the Soviet years, "Medinsky said.


President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli remembered how during his studies he mastered the skill of painting on the works of Kramskoy. "I remember that during my studies at the academy we passed his works and I did [a copy] of one of them." He had the gift to see life, "Tsereteli said.


The exhibition presents about 60 paintings and graphics from the collection of the Voronezh Art Museum. Kramskoy was a native of the Voronezh province. In addition to the works of Ivan Kramskoy, in the halls of the gallery on Prechistenka there will be paintings of the Wanderers, Comrades Kramskoy: Arkhip Kuindzhi, Isaak Levitan, Grigory Myasoyedov, Vasily Polenov, Victor and Apollinaria Vasnetsov, Alexander Butchkuri. For the first time, the sketch of Fedor Vasiliev, the work of Vladimir Makovsky's Watermill, the etchings of Ivan Shishkin, as well as two drawings by Ilya Repin will be on display.


The exposition is timed to coincide with two anniversaries - the 260th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts, which was celebrated in 2017, and the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Voronezh Art Museum.

 

The exhibition will last until July 8, 2018.
