The Feodosia Art Gallery named after Aivazovsky will be transformed by 2022 with the help of the Tretyakov Gallery

The concept of reconstruction of the Feodosia Art Gallery named after Aivazovsky, represented in the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation by the team of the State Tretyakov Gallery, is designed for five years. During this time in the famous Crimean museum will change a lot - from the halls to the PR strategy. After the opening in 2022, the renovated art gallery should become the main museum of the Crimea and a point of attraction for tourists.

The concept proposes a plan for stage-by-stage reconstruction of buildings - without stopping the reception of visitors. It is supposed not only to adapt to the new tasks the main buildings of the museum, but also to use not used now business premises, creating a museum quarter with a spacious open courtyard in the historical estate of Aivazovsky. The core of it will be a new three-story building: there will be space for temporary exhibitions of about 500 square meters. m, as well as the storage facility - 1 thousand square meters. m. "If the picture gallery is reconstructed, it will be able to take major exhibition projects," says Tregulova, "since there are currently no modern museum spaces in the region where central museums could bring significant exhibitions."

Permanent exhibition after reconstruction will be concentrated in the main building and exhibition hall of Aivazovsky, closed since 2010. This will significantly expand the capacity of the museum, which now only shows about 10% of its collection, which numbers almost 14 thousand items. The memorial museum of the artist will appear in the former economic buildings and the coach house, and the house of Aivazovsky's sister will be partially occupied by the administration, in the other part of it they will arrange a storage facility. The entrance to the museum is planned to be done from the yard. On the ground floor there will be a cafe, library, cloakroom and bathrooms (now the toilets do not function). In the former business premises, restoration workshops, an educational center, a restaurant with a sea view and even an art residence will open.

At the time of reconstruction, it is proposed to form an exhibition on the basis of a museum collection that could tour Russia and warm up interest in the opening of the picture gallery. Even before the reconstruction, the modest staff of the museum should expand, and parallel with it will be the development of the museum's brand, corporate identity and a new site.

The concept has yet to be approved in the Ministry of Culture, as well as to calculate the budget. These issues, according to Tregulova, are outside the competence of the Tretyakov Gallery. One of the sources of funding, according to the Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, may be the federal budget, since projects in the Crimea are in priority. Now the federal budget partially finances, for example, the reconstruction of the museum-reserve "Chersonese Tavrichesky" and the panorama building "Defense of Sevastopol."
