The canvas "Heroes of the First Five-Year Plan" by Alexander Deineka sold at Macdougall's for 2.2 million pounds

The two-meter canvas of Alexander Deineka "Heroes of the First Five-Year Plan" sold for 2.2 million pounds. Trades were held at the auction house Macdougall's in London.


"Heroes" were written by the artist for the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937 and decorated the pavilion of the Soviet delegation.


The picture set a record price among the realized paintings by Deineka. Earlier, "the most expensive" was the picture "Behind the Curtain": it was sold in 2015 for $ 3.5 million.


In total, the auction brought organizers more than € 11 million in revenue. Within the framework of the London trading session, works of such masters as Vasily Polenov and Rufin Sudkovsky were also realized. So, the picture of Polenov "Christ and Mary Magdalene" was sold for € 683 thousand.
