The top lot of the November auction of Impressionism and Modernism Christie: Vasily Kandinsky's painting "Improvisation with horses" (sketch for "Improvisation No. 20") in 1911 will be shown in the IN ARTYBUS fund.

Pre-auction display of the painting by Vasily Kandinsky passes from Paris and Geneva to New York and from London to Tokyo, Hong Kong and Taipei. The fact that Moscow is included in the world tour of the collection is recognition of the importance of Russian participants in the art market.

The work of Kandinsky will be located in the space of the non-commercial foundation IN ARTIBUS, where it will be available to the clients of the auction house on September 19. For the general public, the exhibition will be open on September 20 from 11 to 16 hours.

For Kandinsky Christie's plans to get $ 10-15 million - not too much, given that in June for the "Abstract Composition" in 1913, Sotheby's bailed out almost $ 42 million, setting a new auction price record for the artist's paintings.

"Improvisation with horses" was written in 1911, and this is one of the works that preceded Kandinsky's transition to pure abstraction. Created in 1908-1911, he himself divided the paintings into "compositions," "impressions," and "improvisations." He described the latter as primarily unconscious, sudden impressions of external events. One of the main images, symbolizing the artist's creative search, is the figure of the rider. For the first time, it appears in the painting of 1903 under the title "The Blue Horseman". A similar name was given to the creative association created in 1911 by Kandinsky and Franz Mark, as well as the almanac that they released. The canvas for sale is a sketch for a larger "Improvisation No. 20", dated in the artist's April 1911 records. This picture is kept in the Pushkin Museum.
