The exhibition "October" of the world-famous Chinese artist Cai Guoqiang, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the 1917 revolution, was opened yesterday in the main building of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.

"The exhibition that we are opening, its revolutionism may seem to someone similar to the events of 1917. The classical museum provided an opportunity for the modern artist to turn the halls into a huge installation. We tried to build this exhibition in the form of a dialogue - modern art and architecture of the classical museum, with the history of its creation, "said Loshak.

The exposition is based on two 20-meter paintings created by a Chinese artist in Moscow in the technique of powder art. The black and white canvas "River" consists of hundreds of photographs taken a hundred years after the revolution and left their mark on the fabric after the explosion of gunpowder. The basis for the colorful painting "Garden" served as Soviet agitational posters.

The artist placed his works opposite each other in the White Hall of the main building of the museum. At the same time, he turned the entire floor space into a huge wheat field with a sickle and a hammer inside. Looking up, viewers will see not only Soviet symbols, but also their reflections in the mirror ceiling.

"I have been very passionate about Russia, since childhood I have been looking for inspiration in the works of Russian artists such as Isaak Levitan, Vasily Kandinsky and Ivan Kramskoy. In my project" October "I try not only to rethink historical events, but also to show the role of an individual in history , which, like a gunpowder on the canvas, imprinted the events of 1917, "- said Tsai Guoqiang.

The climax of the exhibition is the video project "October: Daytime Fireworks on Red Square", telling about the pyrotechnic show of the artist on Red Square, which was never to be realized. In addition, before entering the main building of the museum, Tsai Guoqiang installed a 16-meter construction of hundreds of baby cots, wheelchairs and young birches. The exhibition "Tsai Guoqiang. October" will be held from September 13 to November 12, 2017 in the main building of the museum.
