September 6 in Moscow will be a new art object by Alexander Povzner, created in the international project Glenmorangie Signet Land Art. The Russian sculptor will present the installation "Guests" - a composition of six five-meter giraffes, made of material that mimics natural stone. Art project Glenmorangie Signet Land Art was launched in Russia in 2016 - its first participant was the ancestor of the Russian land-art Nikolai Polissky. By creating art objects with artists, Glenmorangie pays tribute to natural materials, of which whiskey is produced - wood, stone, barley and water.
Traditionally, Alexander Povzner went for inspiration to the Glenmorangie distillery, where he got acquainted with all the stages of production. In Scotland, the sculptor saw the legendary distillation cubes, which the staff of the distillery called "giraffes" for a height of 4.9 meters - this inspired Alexander to create the installation: "I was fascinated that such important for the production of whiskey mechanisms are lyrical, Title. Having appeared on a distillery in some magical way, these giraffes seemed to have remained there, "the artist admits. From a technical point of view, "giraffes" are unique in that only the lightest and cleanest pairs reach the top of their long copper necks, so that whiskey gains a soft taste.
According to Alexander Povzner, the most difficult work on the object "Guests" was to find the right material for creating such high sculptures. The artist decided to resort to another source of inspiration - the Cadboll Stone. The history of Glenmorangie and Lend-Art began from the moment when one of the most significant monuments of early European sculpture - the Hilton of Cadboll stone - was found in Scotland in the territory of the distillery. The skillful carving painstakingly carved by the ancient Picts in the 8th century formed the basis for the Glenmorangie emblem, and it was in her honor that the legendary whiskey Glenmoranie Signet was named - in English, signet means "seal."
Alexander did not ignore the topic of the "apparently incredible": "I like that the brand is not without self-irony, and in my work" obviously incredible "goes straight to the lawn of Gorky Park!" As the author notes, the subject of the obvious in the art object is revealed by a combination of animal Peace and natural landscape, and it is incredible that giraffes stay in an unusual position in an unexpected place for these animals. This, according to Povzner, makes the sculpture not just a copy of reality, but an art object.
The very name of the work "Guests" tells the viewer that the family of giraffes as if by chance came to Gorky Park.
Location of the art objects of Glenmorangie Signet Land Art in Gorky Park was chosen not by chance - the Park from the very beginning of its history was not only a recreation place for Muscovites, but also a platform for the most innovative and sometimes unexpected for the Soviet era projects: its architectural appearance was created by the best artists of the country. Now, almost a century after its foundation, the Park is still not afraid of bold ideas and regularly presents public art projects of the authorship of the best contemporary artists.
The sculptural composition of Alexander Povzner will stay in the park for a year and will replace the "SIGNET" of Nikolai Polissky, the land-art object of sprouts from wood that were placed on the same spot exactly one year ago. Installation Polissky will be moved to the art park Nikola-Lenivets.
