The exhibition "Big paintings" from the collection of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg was opened in the St Petersburg Manezh.
In the exposition - 19 paintings created in Soviet times and rarely exhibited because of the huge size. These works demonstrate a variety of trends throughout the 1920s - 1980s: from socialist realism to nonconformism.
Visitors will see three paintings of Pavel Filonov's students: "My house is my fortress (Laborites)" by Boris Gurvich, "Kinto (Tiflis bazaar)" by Dmitry Krapivny and "New life (May 1)" by Eugene Kibrik.
After almost a 25-year break, three canvases by artists Vladimir Serov and Nikolai Korchagin, created in 1947 to decorate the Soviet Hall of the Mariinsky Palace, where the Leningrad City Council was located, will also be presented. The compositions are dedicated to the founding of St. Petersburg, as well as to the defense and blockade of Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War.
