The Tretyakov Gallery presents the first large-scale exhibition of de Chirico in Russia - a joint project of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Giorgio Foundation and Iza de Chirico (Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico).
Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978) - Italian painter, one of the greatest masters of the twentieth century, the forerunner of surrealism, the founder of the movement "Metaphysical painting."
For the first time four works by de Chirico exhibited in Moscow in 1929, in the 1930s his drawings and etchings were exhibited. The exhibition in the Tretyakov Gallery reveals all the facets of de Chirico's work: the classical "metaphysical" and post-metaphysical painting, the artist's appeal in the 1920s and 1930s to the interpretation of antiquity and mythological subjects, his interest in the painting of old masters, numerous self-portraits, Early paintings, indicating the passion for art Swiss symbolist artist Arnold Beklin (1827-1901).
Several paintings by de Chirico arrived from the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, which the Tretyakov Gallery, in turn, will give works of avant-garde artists for the autumn exhibition with the participation of other museums. "In the autumn of this year, on the wave of interest to Russia, connected with the 100th anniversary of the October events of 1917, we plan to open an exhibition there, at which we will present quite a large number of works from our collection," Zelphira Tregulova told a news conference.
The works of this master, diversified at the exhibition, will give Russian viewers an opportunity to comprehend its influence not only on European artists, but also on Russian artists. First of all, K. Malevich, who not only transformed in his later works some techniques and motifs of painting by an Italian artist, but also urged the study of his work by his students.
The exhibition has prepared a unique publication, which will include articles by Italian researchers, as well as the text of the curator of the exhibition, the research associate of the Tretyakov Gallery, T. Goryacheva, about Giorgio de Chirico's influence on Russian art.
