An exhibition of world-famous pop art artist Takashi Murakami will open in Moscow at the end of September

March 22 in Hong Kong team of the Museum of Modern Art "Garage" and Takashi Murakami presented an exhibition of the artist, which will open in Moscow at the end of September.


The presentation took place at the Art Basel fair in Hong Kong. About the forthcoming exhibition was told by the director of "Garage" Anton Belov, her curator Ekaterina Inozemtseva and the artist himself.


Retrospective of Takashi Murakami will become one of the main exhibition projects of autumn. This is the first exhibition of pop art-artist in Russia, which in an original way connects manga with modern art and design.


The project, prepared in close cooperation with the artist, will feature works by Murakami from the mid-1990s to the present, including a number of completely new works that will turn the museum into the total universe of Murakami. For this, the exhibition, in addition to painting, graphics, films and animations of the artist himself, will include traditional Japanese engraving and painting from the State Museum of Fine Arts. Alexander Pushkin and the State Museum of Oriental Art, as well as manga and anime from the collection of Murakami. According to the already established tradition, the exhibition will go beyond the museum to the adjacent Arts Square, where the monumental sculpture of Murakami will appear. Its name is still kept secret.
