22 March 2017, Wednesday

From the Tierra del Fuego, from the Argentinean port of Ushuaia, the research vessel "Academician Sergei Vavilov" came out on the course through the Drake Passage. On board - participants of the First Antarctic Biennale of Contemporary Art.

About a hundred artists, architects, designers and philosophers from Japan, Germany, China, Argentina, Spain, Britain, Russia, of course. The vessel will pass with stops along the Antarctic land of Graham. At each stop will be created and displayed objects, installations, performances. And all together artists from different countries will become the creators of what is given the name "Antarktopiya", by analogy with the utopia. I came up with all this and led the famous Russian artist Alexander Ponomarev. Biennale in Antarctica he conceived it as a movement, as swimming, he defined it as a "cultural adventure." Most adventurers, who won the competition, demonstrate they have created a work in Antarctica on 57th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art.
