Paintings by famous Russian artists, who have exhibited here in 1896, will show in Nizhny Novgorod

Canvases by famous Russian artists presented at the All-Russia industrial and art exhibition in 1896 in Nizhny Novgorod, 120 years later, once again on display in the city on the Volga.

In the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum (NNSAM) on Tuesday opened an exhibition "At the turn of the century. Masterpieces of the State Tretyakov Gallery." It is timed to the 120th anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod Russian National Exhibition and the 120th anniversary of the Nizhny Novgorod Art Museum.

"Exhibition on the one hand is relatively small - only 30 paintings, but ten of them -. These are the paintings, which were exhibited in 1896 at the exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod, which caused the greatest attention of the audience ... those works for which we are now studying the history of the national art ", - said the director of the Tretyakov gallery Zelfira Tregulova, noting that the exhibition in 1896 became one of the most significant events in the history of not only the development of industry, the economy of Russia, but also the development of the artistic process.

So, the visitors NNSAM will feature works by Ilya Repin, Vasily Polenov, Vrubel, Konstantin Korovin, Valentin Serov, Isaac Levitan, Vasnetsov Apollinaris.

"I want to draw your attention to the fact that the level of this exhibition is really unprecedented in my memory there was no such project in the Tretyakov Gallery in the regional museum, which would represent a large part of the work, taken from the exposure of the State Tretyakov Gallery." - Said the museum's director.

In particular, she said, for the first time at an exhibition in the region sent a picture Wrubel "By night".

"Despite the fact that we are now trying to keep as much of the work in the permanent exhibition, we have brought to this exhibition two portraits (works of Valentin Serov) - Italian singer Taman and famous collectors Kharitonenko" - said the director of the gallery.

In turn, the deputy governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Dmitry Svatkovsky noted that the region has long sought an exhibition of such level. For its implementation, according to him, in NNSAM renovated rooms, upgraded lighting. He expressed hope that the cooperation and NNSAM Tretyakov Gallery continues.

"We have exchanged some plans ... We would like to introduce here the work of Aivazovsky," - said the Deputy Governor.

Exhibition in NNSAM will run from 28 September until 10 November.
