Russian Museum has presented the exhibition on the 150th anniversary of Vasily Kandinsky's works of folklore, which inspired the artist to create a new trend in art - abstractionism.

 

The exhibition in the Benois Wing of the Mikhailovsky Palace includes paintings of Kandinsky, of his contemporaries, as well as articles by Nordic folk artists, he told reporters the deputy director of the Russian Museum for Science Yevgeny Petrov.

 

"Kandinsky - a very famous, very famous in the world of the artist, but forget that the roots of it from Russia that he was born in Moscow, he was in the 1880s traveled to the North that the main impetus for the creation of abstract works, he was then and there , in the North ", - said Petrov before the exhibition opening. To show the relationship between creativity Kandinsky with folk motifs, Russian Museum added to the exhibition section of northern art. It shows carved distaff, utensils, icons northern letters splints. One of the most illustrative examples of reflection of folk art in the abstract paintings of Kandinsky called Petrova, dedicated St. George. They are located near Vologda icon of St. George, written in the XVI century.

 

For the exhibition Russian Museum took works from their collections, from the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum. Pushkin, the State Hermitage and other museums, as well as from private collections. Kandinsky's work is represented mainly by its early works of figurative and abstract paintings of the 1910s.
